The Blizzard: A Giveaway
Well, I survived the blizzard of 2010, the biggest snowstorm that I can remember. Also one of the biggest to hit the DC area. We received about 22 inches here at my home but some of the areas nearby got over 30 inches! It was a spectacular storm, and I would have enjoyed the beauty of it a bit more if we hadn’t lost power for 12 hours. But, that was relatively brief and painless (though a little chilly). A heartfelt thanks to all of the men and women out working in the storm to restore power to people’s homes.
For Christmas this year I made my own personal blizzard of free-standing lace snowflake ornaments, stitching out 24 of these snowy wonders. I have one left over and am offering it as a memento of the 2010 blizzard to one lucky reader of my blog. To qualify for the drawing all you need to do is leave a comment on this post by 6 a.m. on Thursday morning, February 11. I will randomly draw a winner from all of the comments received and post the winner’s name here on Thursday. I need to have some way of contacting you so please be prepared to email me your address should you be the winner.
This snowflake design was purchased at Embroidery Library and comes in a set of six designs. The snowflakes are stitched onto water soluble stabilizer which is washed away leaving the thread design.

Julie,
I continue to be amazed by your talent! The ornament is beautiful and I would love one for my Christmas tree. A few years ago I out all of my commercially made ornamanents out at a garage sale and over the last 2 years have collected handmade ornakments from places we visit, have lived, etc... so that the tree becomes a reminder of the places and people we love.
Glad to hear you all weathered the storm. Hopefully the next one won't hit you as hard.
I vote for Cindy to get the ornament! I've been lucky enough to get many of you beautiful things already. Plus, I'm kind of done with the snow thing! ha ha.
Julie - What talent you have!!!!! I continue to brag about you, your work and your blog to all that will listen. So happy you share so much with so many. You inspire me.
Hi Julie, What a fun thing to do! The lacey snowflake is beautiful. If I win, it will be displayed all winter on my "fig" tree.
Love the snowflake you sent me; great addition to the others I have! Thank you! Do you remember the blizzard of 1996? We lived in Ellicott City at the time and got 36"; it was unbelievable. Bet your boys are loving it - lots of snowmen!
This is a beautiful site. The snowflake giveaway is a great idea! I love Social Media and the way it has enabled users to connect in so many different ways.
Hi Julie--
Beautiful! (as usual) I really like how cleanly the edges stitched and the overall pattern. What weight/type thread did you use? What stabilizer? I sure wish all the snowflakes on my yard looked that nice! I'm crossing my fingers we all keep our power for the next few days and that the weather people have overestimated our projected snowfall for this next go round. Keep warm! :)
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your snowflake ornaments! Your snowflakes are the kind that anyone would be happy to see at any time of the year. Your snowflakes would also be much lighter weight to shovel than all of this snow we've had so far. I had 33 inches at my house from this last snow! A 6 foot drift of your snowflakes would be much lovlier to look at, and not as cold either...
Julie, Your snowflake is beautiful and it's typical of you to think of ways to share one of your creations. All of us would love to have it. As for the real stuff ... I agree, snow is beautiful ... unless you have an overabundance of it and can see the reality of more now falling. Personally I'd like to send our snow to Vancouver ... we have more than a fair share and they really want it. Our street was finally plowed at 1:30 this morning and we are very grateful to the wonderful crews who continue to serve our communities so we are not held captive forever. Keep warm and remember spring is just around the corner. :)
