Such beautiful stitching!!! And I love the colors. I've picked up my skirt again (after not touching it for about 6 months!). Can't wait to see your dress all pulled together!
I've enjoyed watching the evolution of these pieces...YOU were actually my introduction to Alabama Chanin, et al. The one thing that sticks in my mind is: how do you keep from cutting the underlayer?!!! No, really, I know you are careful, but that is the negative voice whispering in my ear! Good luck..can't wait to see it finished!
Trish, I have taken to calling this dress "the miracle dress" because early on in the cutting process I had the thought, "it will be a miracle if I don't cut through the back layer at least once." So far, so good. Natalie suggests pulling the two layers apart and making your first cut with your scissor blades parallel to the fabric, rather than having your scissor points poking down into the fabric. I'm finding I can grasp the upper layer with the tips of my scissors and gently pull the layers apart. Natalie also reassured all of us at her workshop that if we do make a snip in the back layer it's not the end of the world. Just mend it with a few stitches of matching thread. Thanks for coming along on my journey. I enjoyed looking at your blog today, too.
